Iran Appoints Ali Abdollahi Armed Forces Chief in Command Reshuffle

Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei issued decrees Monday appointing Maj. Gen. Ali Abdollahi as chief of staff of Iran's armed forces in a six-post command reshuffle. Brig. Gen. Kioumars Heydari became deputy chief, while Ahmad Vahidi was formally appointed IRGC commander and promoted to major general. Mostafa Izadi was named Vahidi's deputy, Ali Azmayi took command of the IRGC Navy, and Hossein Taeb became head of the Basij militia. The decrees said Abdollahi, Vahidi, Azmayi and Taeb replaced commanders killed in joint Israeli-U.S. strikes.
