Tax Authority Indicts Contractor Over NIS 33 Million in Fictitious Invoices

Israel's Tax Authority filed an indictment in Beersheba Magistrate's Court against Rahat resident Sufian Alshami and his construction company, Hetz HaNegev, alleging unlawful input-tax deductions. Prosecutors say the defendants received 94 fictitious tax invoices from nine suppliers between February and December 2022 for transactions that were never performed. The invoices totaled about NIS 33 million and were used in company VAT reports to deduct about NIS 5 million, allegedly inflating expenses and reducing tax owed. The charge sheet attributes 11 offenses to Alshami and the company following a Customs and VAT Investigations Beersheba inquiry.
