NYPD Says Suspect Shouted 'Allahu Akbar' in Stabbing of Jewish Man
New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said 51-year-old Raul Morales shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’ during two stabbing attacks on Manhattan’s Upper West Side on Thursday. Police said a 57-year-old Asian man and a 50-year-old Jewish man were stabbed in the torso and hospitalized in stable condition. Officers arrested Morales after he barricaded himself inside a nearby apartment building; investigators recovered a weapon near the second scene. The NYPD is evaluating whether the attacks constitute a hate crime and said detectives are still determining motive, while the Jewish victim’s rabbi said he was alert in hospital.
