New York police charged Raul Morales, 51, with attempted murder and assault as hate crimes in the stabbing of a Jewish man on Manhattan's Upper West Side. Morales also faces attempted-murder and assault counts, without hate-crime enhancements, in a separate attack on an Asian man. Police say witnesses and victims reported that he shouted “Allahu Akbar” during both attacks. The Jewish victim, Moshe Grunhaus, had left a nearby synagogue, and both wounded men were in stable condition Friday. Prosecutors will make the final charging decision after arraignment.
