Likud MKs Set to Receive NIS 380,000 Each for Primary Campaigns

Forty serving Likud lawmakers and ministers are expected to receive NIS 380,000 each in state funding for their primary campaigns beginning this week. The 2018 law was designed to reduce candidates' dependence on wealthy donors by funding eligible incumbents from the state treasury, while new contenders generally rely on loans or donations. The Likud court rejected a rule that would permit advance cancellation during a security emergency and said postponement or electronic voting should be preferred. The August 17 primary therefore remains scheduled, although the current report says disbursed funding would not return to the treasury if the vote were later canceled.
