Iran Expected to Receive Up to 400 Chinese Air-Defense Launchers

Three sources familiar with the deal said Iran expects within weeks to receive the first shipment from a purchase of 300 to 400 Chinese-made shoulder-fired air-defense launchers. The $60 million to $70 million contract covers QW-12 and FN-16 man-portable systems and uses a Hong Kong-based intermediary, according to the report. Tehran and Beijing are considering land routes to reduce interception risks as Iran rebuilds defenses damaged in the war with Israel and the United States. China's Foreign Ministry called the report completely groundless and said Beijing promotes peace and an end to the conflict.
