Explosion Reported Near Tanker Off Oman’s Khasab Coast

UK maritime authorities said a tanker’s master reported a large splash followed by an explosion close to the vessel on Saturday, about 21 nautical miles northeast of Khasab, Oman. The vessel reported no damage, and no casualties were reported. Authorities were investigating the incident, which occurred near the southern shipping corridor at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz. It was separate from a Friday projectile strike on another tanker near Limah that damaged that ship’s engine room, amid continuing attacks on commercial shipping during the Iran conflict.
