Katz Says He Did Not Dismiss Avi Bluth, Calls Claim Political Campaign

Defense Minister Israel Katz said he did not dismiss Central Command chief Maj. Gen. Avi Bluth during a televised interview, calling claims that he did so a political campaign against the government. Katz said IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir recommended Maj. Gen. Dado Bar Kalifa for the post on April 24, and that Katz approved advancing the appointment on July 28 after interviewing him. Katz added that when a panelist urged Bluth's dismissal, he answered "no." He said the appointment process was therefore underway months before the interview and was not triggered by it.
