Magnitude-5.2 Earthquake Near Suez Felt in Israel

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre recorded a magnitude-5.2 earthquake in Egypt at 3:00 a.m. Monday, about 38 kilometers north of Suez and 10 kilometers deep. Tremors were felt in southern and central Israel, with residents reporting shaking in Yeruham, Beer Yaakov, Rehovot, Ganei Tikva and Petah Tikva; Google alerts also reached Israeli phones. Egypt’s national institute measured the quake at 5.6, while other networks reported 5.3 to 5.4. Egyptian authorities and the Red Crescent activated emergency monitoring, with no casualties or property damage reported in initial assessments.
