Senior members of Colombia's new cabinet unexpectedly joined Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar's meeting in Cali with newly sworn-in Vice President Jose Manuel Restrepo, according to Sa'ar's office. The incoming foreign, defense, finance, justice, environment and trade ministers all attended. Restrepo told Sa'ar that for Colombia, 2026 would be marked by the deepening and strengthening of its relationship with the State of Israel. Sa'ar is representing Israel at the inauguration of President Abelardo de la Espriella, who has pledged far friendlier ties than his predecessor Gustavo Petro, the leader who severed relations with Jerusalem in 2024. Sa'ar said the golden age in relations between Colombia and Israel begins today.
