Colombia Recognizes Israeli Sovereignty Over the Golan Heights

Colombia's government recognized Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights on Monday, citing persistent regional instability and the plateau's strategic importance to Israel's security. The Foreign Ministry said Israel has faced enduring existential threats along its borders, intensified in recent years and underscored by Hamas's October 7 terrorist attacks. Bogotá said continued Israeli control and sovereignty over the Golan are essential to the country's defense and protection of its citizens. The ministry said the decision reflects a bilateral commitment reached on August 8 and Colombia's pursuit of stable, lasting peace in the Middle East.
