U.S. Says It Will Lift the Blockade of Iranian Ports Once a Hormuz Deal Is Announced

A United States official said Friday that Washington expects Iran and Oman to conclude an agreement on the Strait of Hormuz soon, and that the United States will lift its blockade of Iranian ports once a deal is announced restoring commercial shipping without impediments. The official said American actions would remain performance-based and tied to Iran's implementation of its commitments. Iran's Supreme National Security Council is expected to approve the arrangement shortly. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Tuesday that progress had been made in the talks but that they had not reached finality, and that Washington hoped agreement would come very shortly.
