Israel Holds Off as Board of Peace Seeks Gaza Clan Disarmament

Senior Board of Peace officials, backed by the United States, want Gaza's armed Bedouin clans disarmed in the postwar phase, according to a report published Sunday. An Israeli security official said the anti-Hamas clans are operating effectively and according to plan, including helping secure the Yellow Line and locate weapons and terrorist infrastructure. Israeli defense officials are divided over the groups' future, and the political echelon has not rushed to resolve it. One official warned that removing their weapons could push the clans back toward smuggling.
