Zangauker Says Golan Withdrew Promised Democrats Slate Slot

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of Einav Zangauker and Yair Golan speaking face to face at night with a crowd and city lights behind them.

Einav Zangauker said Democrats chairman Yair Golan promised her a reserved place near the top of the party’s Knesset slate and later reversed course. She said they met at his request in February, she accepted after deliberation, and Golan repeatedly reaffirmed the agreement while asking her to keep it secret and lower her media profile until after the primaries. Zangauker said she therefore did not pursue other options. She said the episode is over and that she will continue working to repair Israeli society outside the Knesset after thanking the public for helping bring her son Matan home from captivity.
