Border Police Arrest Qalandiya Man Digging Shaft for Tunnel Into Israel

Israel Police said Border Police lookouts in the Jerusalem Envelope sector spotted several suspects digging next to the security barrier route in the Qalandiya area on Monday, and forces sent to the scene gave chase on foot and fired into the air before arresting one of them. Police said the detainee is a 36-year-old resident of the Qalandiya refugee camp who was in Israel without a permit. In initial questioning he admitted that the intention was to dig a tunnel into Israeli territory. He then led officers to the shaft, where many buckets and digging tools were found. Border Police intelligence is questioning him further to locate the other diggers.
