Five Israeli Banks Post NIS 8.5 Billion Quarterly Profit as Credit Hits NIS 2 Trillion

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of the street-level entrance of an Israeli bank branch, a wide blank white sign band across the top of the facade, a red-panelled recess on the left holding two wall-mounted ATM machines, and a tall glass storefront on the right where two customers stand in the lit interior, with parked cars reflected in the glass, paved sidewalk in the foreground and a slim tree at the right edge.

Israel's five largest banks closed the second quarter of 2026 with a combined net profit of NIS 8.5 billion, 2 percent above the same quarter last year, after Mizrahi Tefahot completed the reporting round on Monday. Their credit to the public reached NIS 2 trillion, an increase of NIS 246 billion, or 14 percent, over the year. Combined net interest income slipped 1 percent to NIS 16.1 billion while fee income rose 3 percent to NIS 3.8 billion. The banks posted the gains despite falling interest rates and the special tax the Knesset imposed on large lenders. Leumi led with NIS 2.83 billion and Hapoalim followed at NIS 2.49 billion.
