U.S.-Iran War Memorandum Lapses Without a Deal as Tehran Denies Extension Talks

The 60-day negotiating window in the Pakistan-brokered Islamabad Memorandum, which halted the war Israel and the United States began against Iran in February, lapsed Monday with no agreement on sanctions relief or Tehran's nuclear program. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said the text contains no 60-day deadline, called the 14-point memorandum moot, and blamed American violations for the absence of talks. A senior Iranian official said there are no discussions about an extension, contradicting Pakistani government sources who reported both sides consented to extend. Trump said preventing an Iranian nuclear weapon remains the number one goal. Unresolved issues include the Strait of Hormuz, enriched uranium, and the Lebanon ceasefire.
