Democratic Socialists of America member Angie Nixon, a Florida state representative, won the Democratic nomination in Florida's Senate special election on Tuesday, defeating retired Army officer Alex Vindman by a projected 55.8 to 44.3 percent. Nixon said she would have voted for a July congressional resolution stripping $3.3 billion in American military aid to Israel, and filed a state House ceasefire resolution weeks after the October 7 attacks. Vindman, a Jewish immigrant born in Soviet Ukraine, raised $16 million to her $900,000 and had warned of rising antisemitism in the party's socialist wing. She faces Republican Senator Ashley Moody in November in the state with America's third-largest Jewish population.
