Iran Executes Protest Detainee Accused of Acting for Israel and U.S.

Iranian authorities executed protest detainee Majid Adineh early Sunday after the Karaj Revolutionary Court convicted him under an espionage law of operational activity benefiting Israel, the United States and hostile groups. The judiciary said he was arrested in Mohammadshahr, Karaj, on January 9 and that officers seized a handgun, three magazines and 30 rounds. It also alleged arson, conspiracy against internal security, propaganda and illegal weapons possession. Iran’s Supreme Court upheld the death sentence and property confiscation, while independent reporting said the authorities’ account and attributed statements could not be independently verified.
