Syria Expects Israel Security Talks to Resume Soon, Foreign Minister Says

Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani said he expects security negotiations with Israel to resume soon, though no date has been set. He said contact stopped after Israel struck Abu al-Duhur airbase on Tuesday, an attack Israel said was intended to prevent a Turkish deployment that Damascus and Ankara denied. Shaibani said the sides had agreed on paper to almost everything earlier in 2026, including zones with different limits on Syrian forces and a UN-only buffer area. He said Syria first seeks an end to Israeli strikes, while acknowledging Israel's security concerns and calling reciprocal guarantees necessary.
