Qatar Calls U.S. Iran Sanctions Unilateral, Urges Return to Negotiations

Qatar Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al Ansari said Doha is continuing regional contacts to encourage the United States and Iran to return to negotiations. He described Washington's new measures as unilateral rather than United Nations sanctions, said they do not directly affect Qatar, and stated that Doha follows the international sanctions framework while backing diplomacy instead of either side. Al Ansari rejected Iranian threats against regional states and said Qatar is prepared to defend its sovereignty. He also called for lawful navigation through the Strait of Hormuz to resume, citing energy, food and supply-chain security.
