IRGC Says Supertanker Hit Two Mines and Caught Fire in Strait of Hormuz

The IRGC Navy said an unidentified supertanker struck two naval mines while using what it called an unauthorized route south of the Strait of Hormuz several hours earlier. It claimed the impact caused major fires and left the vessel completely stopped, but the statement did not identify the ship, flag, owner, cargo or crew, or report casualties. The Guard said compliance with its navigation rules was mandatory and warned shipping companies against following U.S. military encouragement. No independent confirmation of the alleged mine strikes was available.
