Met Cancels Galliano Exhibit as Designer Acknowledges Harm to Jewish Community

The Metropolitan Museum of Art and designer John Galliano jointly announced that the planned “John Galliano: Horizons” exhibition, scheduled for May 2027, will not proceed. Galliano said he remains accountable and deeply sorry for pain caused by his past words, particularly harm to Jewish and Asian communities, and said meaningful atonement does not come through an exhibition or institutional recognition. Met director Max Hollein said the decision followed discussions with Galliano. Costume Institute curator Andrew Bolton acknowledged the pain and concern the exhibition caused, while trustee Anna Wintour said canceling it was the right decision. The Met will announce a replacement exhibition and gala theme later.
