Trump Posts AI Video Depicting Iran’s Kharg Island Under Attack

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of two armed observers, one standing and one kneeling, seen from behind on a weathered coastal structure as they watch ships on the hazy Gulf horizon, drawn in warm ochre and slate-blue pastel with cross-hatching on sepia newsprint.

U.S. President Donald Trump posted AI-generated footage depicting explosions on Iran’s Kharg Island, writing that the oil-export hub was “being blown to smithereens.” Reuters found no other evidence that Kharg was under attack, and the White House, Pentagon and Iranian media had not immediately confirmed any strike. Kharg handled about 90% of Iran’s oil exports before the current war. The post followed confirmed U.S. action against two launchers on Larak Island, about 660 kilometers east of Kharg, but Trump gave no details linking the video to a real operation.
