Vance Says U.S. Will Not Talk to Iran Until Ship Attacks Stop

U.S. Vice President JD Vance said Washington will not hold talks with Iran unless Tehran stops attacking commercial shipping. Speaking at a White House briefing, he said Iran must stop shooting at ships and linked any timetable for ending the confrontation to that condition. Asked whether the confrontation would end before the November 3 midterms, Vance said major combat operations were not currently underway. He said recent U.S. action had made it harder for Iran to threaten shipping and framed the objective as protecting oil and gas flows into global energy markets.
