Lod Renames Dekel Special Education School for Longtime City Treasurer

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of adults gathered in a bright school hallway as a suited man and two women unveil a wall plaque with a vivid blue cloth, drawn in warm ochre and slate-blue pastel with cross-hatching on sepia newsprint.

Lod’s Dekel special education school was renamed for Zion Hadar, who served as the city’s treasurer from 2002 to 2026 and died about 70 days before the ceremony. Hadar’s family, Mayor Yair Revivo, city council members, municipal employees, staff and pupils attended. Principal Yifat Erlich said Hadar had long supported the school and worked to meet the needs of its pupils and staff. Pupils performed “Shavim” in sign language before the memorial sign was unveiled, adding to tributes at city hall and in the municipal Finance Department.
