16,500 Vetted Gaza Police Recruits Await Exit for Egypt Training

Approximately 16,500 Palestinians selected from 283,000 applicants are awaiting permission to leave Gaza for police training in Egypt. The candidates underwent preliminary vetting for a planned non-factional force serving the technocratic Gaza administration. Israel retains oversight of exit clearances, and movement authorization had not yet been granted. Officials involved in the Board of Peace process described coordination among Israeli security bodies, Egypt and international stabilization partners. The training plan is intended to prepare a civilian police force for Gaza's post-Hamas governance framework.
