Government Committee Approves National Flood-Risk Plan

A directors-general committee headed by the Prime Minister’s Office approved a national flood-risk management plan on October 19. The plan seeks to improve Israel’s preparedness and reduce risks to people and property through coordinated government action on flooding and runoff. Its policy directions include advancing amendments to the 1957 Drainage and Flood Protection Law and improving warning systems for the public. It also calls for clearer responsibilities among emergency bodies during flooding. The committee’s approval concerns a plan and implementation steps, rather than completed drainage works or an already enacted legal amendment.
