Shimshit Fire No Longer Threatens Homes as Residents Told to Shelter

Israel Fire and Rescue said evacuation was no longer required at Shimshit and there was no danger to homes after an earlier police evacuation of the first row nearest a forest fire. Heavy smoke prompted residents to remain indoors, close windows and openings, and avoid unnecessary time outside. Twelve firefighting teams, four aircraft from the aerial firefighting squadron and KKL crews were working as flames spread on two fronts. Nof HaGalil station commander Ofer Edri said crews were concentrating on blocking the fire and preventing it from advancing toward residences.
