Israel Allows Bazan’s Gadiv Plant to Resume Maintenance Under Stricter Controls
Published
Israel’s Environmental Protection Ministry has authorized Gadiv, part of Bazan, to resume maintenance work in Haifa Bay after unusual benzene emissions prompted a halt the previous week. The updated conditions combine operational checks, including tank pressure, with benzene monitoring near emission sources and ambient monitoring stations. Thresholds can trigger reduced activity or a stop to maintenance, with the ambient network intended to prevent daily environmental limits from being exceeded. Haifa district director Dorit Zis said the decision followed professional review and stricter requirements. The district will monitor compliance and take enforcement action according to its findings.
