Obama Criticizes Trump’s Iran War and Defends Nuclear Diplomacy

Former U.S. President Barack Obama criticized President Donald Trump’s war with Iran at an October 24 campaign rally in Cleveland, Ohio. Speaking in support of Democratic candidates Amy Acton and Sherrod Brown, he argued that diplomacy during his presidency had prevented Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons without military strikes. Obama said Trump had withdrawn from the nuclear agreement before later taking the United States to war. He also blamed the conflict for higher oil and diesel prices, presenting the war’s economic costs as part of his criticism of the administration.
