Sohlberg Rejects Petitions Against Netanyahu Airbase Video

Central Elections Committee chairman Justice Noam Sohlberg dismissed petitions on Sunday against a video showing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at an Israeli Air Force base. The petitions argued that filming with military facilities and a fighter jet amounted to prohibited use of public resources for election propaganda. Sohlberg found that security messaging and deterrence were the video's dominant purposes and declined to order its removal. He cautioned that further videos of this kind could be treated differently as election day draws closer, depending on the circumstances.

Difference in reporting

Sources factually disagree on the video's distribution: Srugim says it was not posted on Netanyahu's personal accounts; Maariv describes the ruling's consideration of publication on private accounts. Both report that Sohlberg dismissed the petitions because the video's dominant purpose was security related.
