Trump Reportedly Promotes Orbán for UN Secretary-General

U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly promoted former Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán as a candidate for United Nations secretary-general. An unnamed State Department official was quoted as saying the White House believed Russia and China would support the proposal, an assessment based on earlier conversations with the two countries. Under that reported understanding, Orbán would be a joint candidate backed by Washington, Moscow and Beijing. Sources from all three countries were also cited as confirming the details of the initiative.
