Golan Condemns Heckling of Eisenkot Over His Son’s Death
Published
Democrats chairman Yair Golan condemned the heckling of Gadi Eisenkot on Monday after protesters outside Eisenkot’s home in Herzliya accused the former IDF chief of killing his own son. Golan’s response followed a demonstration on Sunday evening, when a small group of Netanyahu supporters gathered outside the Yashar chairman’s home. In his Monday morning statement, Golan said the protesters had crossed a boundary by directing the accusation at a bereaved father. He blamed Benjamin Netanyahu and his political supporters for the rhetoric. “There is no line they will not cross and no depth they will not sink to,” Golan said. Those comments were Golan’s political accusation against Netanyahu’s camp. Footage of the protest showed a participant using a megaphone to direct the accusation at Eisenkot and call him a traitor, with others joining the chant. Golan expressed solidarity with Eisenkot, whom he described as a friend and political partner. He said a new government should replace the rhetoric he condemned with responsible and respectful public debate. Eisenkot’s son, Gal Meir Eisenkot, died in combat on December 7, 2023, aged 25. The Defense Ministry’s memorial record identifies him as an infantry reservist and the son of Hana and Gadi. Separately, Golan was expected to meet Yisrael Beiteinu chairman Avigdor Liberman on Monday morning.
