Golan Reportedly Due to Meet Joint List Leaders on Tuesday
Published
Democrats leader Yair Golan is expected to meet Joint List chairman Yousef Jabareen and Ahmad Tibi on Tuesday, November 3, to examine possible cooperation among their parties. The reported talks would be their first meeting since publication of the election results. The report concerns arrangements for a meeting, rather than an agreement on forming a government. Golan called on Monday for an alternative government, describing it as a government uniting people who serve and work. His public appeal also spoke of bringing together Jews and Arabs. The planned discussions with Jabareen and Tibi would address the possibility of cooperation among the parties in the bloc. President Isaac Herzog set out the next institutional steps in a statement on November 1. He said Central Elections Committee chairman Justice Noam Sohlberg would deliver the official election results to him on Wednesday. Herzog would then begin consultations with the parliamentary factions at the President's Residence, where all factions and parties would be welcome. Herzog urged political representatives to seek creative solutions that could avoid another election. He told them, “Come to listen and to be heard.” Those consultations remain a separate process from the reported party talks scheduled for Tuesday.
