Golan Urges Alternative Government as He Questions Netanyahu’s Leadership on Iran
Published
Democrats chairman Yair Golan called on Sunday, November 1, for an alternative government to be formed as quickly as possible, linking his demand to the possibility of another campaign against Iran. In a morning statement, he said he believed the likelihood of such a campaign was growing and challenged Benjamin Netanyahu’s fitness to lead it. Golan accused Netanyahu of failing to prevent repeated rounds of confrontation. “Netanyahu does not have the public trust required to manage such a campaign,” he said. He also questioned the prime minister’s moral legitimacy and basic ability, presenting those criticisms as reasons to replace the government. Golan named Gadi Eisenkot, Avigdor Lieberman, Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid alongside himself as leaders familiar with the defense establishment. He said they had the experience, ability and detailed knowledge needed to address Israel’s security challenges, and described them as committed to working together for the country’s security. These were Golan’s assertions about the group, rather than an announcement by all five leaders. He also criticized Netanyahu, Israel Katz and Itamar Ben Gvir remaining in key positions, arguing that their continued leadership endangered Israel. Golan urged swift political change and warned against making Israel’s security serve Netanyahu’s political survival.
