President Isaac Herzog convened the first session of the Beyond Intelligence forum on November 3 to examine how artificial intelligence is changing work and income. He initiated the forum with the National AI Directorate in the Prime Minister’s Office and the Mosaic Institute for AI Policy. Herzog said, “Israel must take its place at the forefront of artificial intelligence.” The opening discussion focused on the economic and social resilience implications of the technology, with particular attention to employment and economic security. Participants examined the relationship between work and income, maintaining a dignified livelihood, and ensuring that technological change is accompanied by shared prosperity and fairness. Erez Askal, head of the National AI Directorate, and Daniel Schreiber, chairman of the Mosaic Institute, took part in the session. Adaya Leibovich Tobe, the President’s chief of staff, leads the forum. Its work is intended to bring representatives of government, academia, business and civil society into a continuing process of learning and deliberation about the social changes associated with technological progress. Herzog called for a range of views and open disagreement in those discussions. The forum aims to sustain a national dialogue and develop guiding principles for navigating the changes. The presidential statement did not announce an adopted employment policy, a budget or an implementation timetable.
