Israel and Germany Sign 2027 Energy Work Programme
Israel and Germany have signed a work programme for 2027 under their bilateral energy partnership, Israel's Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure confirmed on November 5. The programme was signed this week and marks the partnership's fifth year. It covers renewable energy, electricity-grid management, energy security and protection of critical infrastructure. The cooperation is organised through two working groups. One addresses energy policy and new technologies, including geothermal energy, nuclear fusion, underground natural-gas storage, low-carbon gases and sustainable aviation fuel. Other subjects include energy efficiency at server farms, heat pumps, electric-vehicle charging in shared residential buildings and the use of artificial intelligence to manage the electricity grid. The second track addresses digitalisation and infrastructure resilience. Its agenda includes cybersecurity for operational technology and cloud systems, digital sovereignty, inventories of spare parts and fuel, recovery after infrastructure damage and regulatory models. German experts also visited the Orot Rabin power station in Hadera, Israel Electric Corporation, Israel Natural Gas Lines facilities and Noga's control centre in Haifa. Discussions included lessons from the war. Janet Shalom, the ministry's head of foreign relations and international projects, described the ties as deepening, saying: "The partnership with Germany deepens from year to year."
