Holocaust Survivor Eva Geller Dies After Months of Treatment for Bondi Attack Injuries

Eva Geller, a 90-year-old Holocaust survivor wounded in the Bondi Beach Hanukkah terror attack, died in a Sydney hospital on Thursday night, November 5. Her death was disclosed on Friday after months of hospital treatment and rehabilitation following the December 14, 2025 attack. Rabbi Aron Moss of Bondi’s Nefesh Synagogue said Geller had sustained serious leg injuries and moved repeatedly between hospital and rehabilitation. She had learned to walk again despite doctors’ initial doubts that she would regain that ability. Moss recalled her determination and the affection she inspired. “Everyone in the community really loved her,” Moss said. Geller escaped the Holocaust in Hungary as a child and came to Australia with her mother and grandmother. Her late husband was also a Holocaust survivor. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and New South Wales Premier Chris Minns offered condolences to her family and the Jewish community following news of her death. Gunmen killed 15 people in the original attack on the Hanukkah celebration at Archer Park beside Bondi Beach. Geller’s family linked her death to the injuries she suffered there. New South Wales Police said they were awaiting further advice and working with the coroner; a coroner’s report will be prepared. Her funeral and memorial service are scheduled for Monday, November 9.
