Volker Beck Calls Albanese’s Allegations About Israel Antisemitic
Volker Beck, president of the German–Israeli Society, condemned Francesca Albanese’s allegations about Israel as antisemitic on Friday, November 6. In a German-language post published that morning, he shared a video excerpt circulated by UN Watch and challenged the treatment of United Nations reporting as objective evidence against Israel. Beck focused on an allegation attributed to Albanese that people in Europe profit from supplying dogs used to commit sexual violence. He rejected the allegation in emphatic terms, calling it “delusional fever dreams of antisemitism.” His post presented the accusation as an example of the antisemitism he was criticizing, rather than endorsing its account of events. The UN Watch excerpt, posted on Thursday evening, also attributes allegations about killing children, torture and sexual abuse to Albanese. It includes Irish Senator Chris Andrews thanking her for her advocacy and describing it as inspiring. These are the speakers’ statements in the excerpt, rather than independently established findings about Israel. Beck’s organization identifies him as its current president. Its June 12, 2022 announcement recorded his election by a large majority and described him as a former Greens member of Germany’s Bundestag. In that announcement, Beck also opposed German support for United Nations campaigns against Israel.
