Erdoğan Urges Trump to Resolve U.S.-Iran Tensions Through Diplomacy
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan urged U.S. President Donald Trump to pursue a diplomatic resolution of tensions between the United States and Iran during a telephone conversation on November 7. Türkiye’s Directorate of Communications said the presidents discussed Turkish-American relations as well as regional and global developments. Erdoğan said tensions between Washington and Tehran should end and their problems should be resolved “through diplomacy.” He emphasized that Türkiye would continue its efforts for peace. The Turkish account presented this as Erdoğan’s position during the conversation; it did not announce an agreement between the United States and Iran or a timetable for negotiations. On bilateral ties, Erdoğan said he believed cooperation between Türkiye and the United States would continue to grow. He said they would work to give the relationship further momentum in the period ahead. Erdoğan also thanked Trump for his support for the Organization of Turkic States summit. The call also covered efforts to end the war between Ukraine and Russia. Erdoğan expressed hope that increasing diplomatic efforts would produce positive results and said Türkiye would continue contributing to them. He stressed the importance of expanding contacts with both Ukraine and Russia.
