Araghchi Renews War Threat as He Urges White House to Accept Iran’s Proposal
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi called on the White House on November 8 to accept Iran’s existing proposal or face further war. In a statement addressed to the United States, he said Tehran’s requirements included an end to fighting on every front and threatened a military response if Washington chose war. Araghchi referred to American voters having made their choice and urged the White House to make its own. “Our 2-day proposal stands,” he wrote. He said meeting Iran’s requirements would bring results, while describing Iranian forces as ready for further fighting. His statement presented the choice as accepting those requirements or continuing the war. Earlier on November 8, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz warned that Iran was trying to renew its efforts to obtain nuclear weapons. Speaking at a ceremony marking 70 years since Operation Kadesh, attended by President Isaac Herzog and bereaved families, Katz said Israel could not accept the threats it faced and had to prepare for every scenario to protect its citizens. Katz also said Israel would retain its security zones in Gaza, Lebanon and Syria. He warned that Hezbollah would face severe blows if it joined an Iranian attack on Israel. Those remarks preceded Araghchi’s evening appeal to Washington.
