IDF Says Hezbollah Weapons and Military Apartment Found Near UN Posts in Lebanon
The IDF disclosed Sunday that troops had found Hezbollah weapons stockpiles and a military-use apartment close to United Nations posts in southern Lebanon. The army described the discoveries as part of the 91st Division’s operations in the area it calls the security zone, aimed at removing threats to Israel. According to the IDF, the Oded Brigade Combat Team located two weapons stockpiles in Meiss El Jabal. One was inside a civilian home about 200 metres from a UN post; the other was in a storage facility about 100 metres from a UN post. The army listed Kalashnikov rifles, RPG launchers and rockets, a PK machine gun, fragmentation grenades, an explosive device and ammunition, along with communications and surveillance equipment. It said humanitarian aid boxes and Amal and Hezbollah emblems were also present. In Et Tiri, the Kfir Brigade Combat Team found an apartment used by Hezbollah for military purposes about 250 metres from a UN post, the statement said. The IDF listed surveillance equipment, combat gear, living supplies and Hezbollah emblems among its contents. The army described the findings as evidence of UNIFIL’s failure to fulfil its mission and of “the cynical exploitation by terrorist organizations.” That was the IDF’s assessment of the discoveries. The statement did not give the date of the searches. It said troops would continue removing threats to Israeli civilians and soldiers while remaining committed to the ceasefire agreement.
