Jordan Moves Israel Envoy Back to Amman Without Replacement
Al-Mamlaka reported that a Jordanian royal decree approved the cabinet decision transferring Ambassador Ghassan Majali from Jordan's embassy in Israel to the Foreign Ministry in Amman, effective July 15. Roya, Addustour, Nabaa Jordan and Gerasa carried the same decree, while Bhol added that Majali has not returned to Israel since Jordan recalled him in November 2023 and that no official Jordanian ambassador will remain in Israel after the transfer. The move formalizes a diplomatic chill that has persisted since the Hamas-triggered Gaza war, even as Israel and Jordan still share a vital peace treaty, border security interests and Temple Mount coordination. Jerusalem should keep the channel open, but not let Amman's domestic pressure rewrite Israel's security needs.
