King Abdullah Calls Israeli Presence in Syria a Regional Threat at UN

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of King Abdullah II speaking at a lectern during a 2007 address to the U.S. Congress, with Vice President Dick Cheney and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi seated behind him; archival formal-address context, not a depiction of his reported 2026 United Nations General Assembly remarks.

King Abdullah II told the UN General Assembly that Israel's presence in southern Syria had become a regional threat, linking it to Jordan's northern border and water security. He accused Israel of repeated incursions, territorial expansion and creating new facts around vital water resources. The Jordanian monarch said any threat to the border or water was a threat to Jordanian national security and vowed to protect the kingdom's interests. The official transcript did not include an Israeli response to his allegations.
