Israel Weighs Abu Dhabi Summit to Revive Jordan Water Deal
Israel is considering a UAE-backed trilateral energy summit in Abu Dhabi with Jordan and the Emirates to restart water and energy cooperation after months of strain. The proposed meeting would bring the three energy ministers together to discuss renewing an additional 50 million cubic meters of Israeli water for Jordan each year, beyond the 50 million cubic meters Israel continues to provide under the 1994 peace treaty. It would also seek to revive the Prosperity plan, pairing Israeli desalination with Jordanian solar power. Israeli officials say the extra water is tied to goodwill and warmer ties, while Jordan's need remains acute after it helped confront Iranian fire during recent regional hostilities.
