Jordan’s Royal Jerusalem Committee Condemns Colombia Embassy Opening

Abdullah Kanaan, secretary-general of Jordan’s Royal Committee for Jerusalem Affairs, condemned Colombia’s embassy opening in Jerusalem in comments reported from Amman on October 17. He argued that the move prejudices the city’s legal and historical status and urged international opposition to steps changing that status. Kanaan reiterated support for a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital and Jordan’s custodianship of Muslim and Christian holy sites. Israel’s Foreign Ministry described Colombia’s opening as recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and a step strengthening bilateral friendship and cooperation.
