Colombia Designates Iran's Revolutionary Guard a Terrorist Group After Breaking Ties

Colombia's Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday that the government has declared Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps a terrorist group, saying it endangers international peace and security, represses Iranians and conducts covert operations beyond Iran's borders. The ministry said Colombia will tighten measures to prevent the entry of people associated with the group. In a separate statement the same day, it said Colombia had broken diplomatic relations with Iran effective September 19, citing Tehran's alleged ties to terrorist and narco-terrorist groups, obstruction of IAEA verification and the Strait of Hormuz blockade, while keeping consular relations. Israel's ambassador to Colombia, Vivian Aisen, thanked and congratulated the government for the break.
