Border Police Commander Indicted in Checkpoint Assault Case
Police Internal Investigations filed a Jerusalem Magistrate's Court indictment under a plea arrangement against Border Police squad commander Eyal Haimov over a June 11, 2024 incident at the Kiosk, or Container, checkpoint between Jerusalem and Bethlehem. The charge sheet accuses him of assault causing actual bodily harm, threats and unlawful access to computer material after officers searched passengers' phones and found a weapon photo on one phone. Reports say Haimov allegedly removed Bara'a Issa from the vehicle, beat him with fists and a makeshift club, fractured his left hand, washed blood from him and pushed him back into the car. He is also accused of warning another officer not to report what he saw, and prosecutors said they may seek prison time if he is convicted.
