Dan Illouz Leaves Likud After Opposing Haredi Draft-Arrest Law

Likud MK Dan Illouz announced Wednesday that he will leave the party after one Knesset term and will not contest its coming primaries. Illouz said he could not ask voters to support a party he could no longer support, and criticized its response to October 7 and its handling of the Haredi draft dispute. He voted against the law freezing arrests of qualifying Haredi yeshiva students accused of draft evasion and against Basic Law: Torah Study. His departure follows Yuli Edelstein's exit and adds to the party's upheaval before the election.
